While the gameplay seems to be curving back towards the series' roots, it remains to be seen if the story will as well, which is something the franchise desperately needs. Valhalla seems to be moving back towards stealth-action, removing the leveling system recently introduced and bringing back concepts like social stealth (hiding and moving through crowds), a trademark of earlier entries. Origins (2017) was the beginning of a massive shift in both the gameplay and narrative of the Assassin's Creed franchise, moving away from stealth-action into something more akin to an action-RPG. The game de-emphasized the importance of stealth and its successor, Odyssey, essentially did away with it entirely. However, Valhalla should also return to Assassin's Creed's narrative roots to truly succeed. Fans of the series are pleased to see the return of the Hidden Blade, the Assassins' signature weapon, as well as the blade's instant kill when used from stealth. The new game will take place in 837 AD and puts the players in the shoes of Viking warrior, Eivor. Assassin's Creed:Valhalla will be the 12th main entry in Ubisoft's long-running franchise.
